Elevate Your Career Through Sleep

The way you sleep could be affecting your career and job performance more than you know!

We all have had days at the office where it is a little more challenging than usual to keep our eyes open and keep focus. Too many times, when our schedules start to get busy, sleep is the first thing we sacrifice. What we do not necessarily realize, is how much that lack of sleep is affecting our productivity, and in the long run, our career.

Work is not easy! It takes great effort to really put yourself out there, to do a task, to work on a team, to invent a product, or even to start a company. What is important to remember is that if we want to be successful, we must treat ourselves and our bodies as a priority as well! A great night’s sleep is at the foundation of reaching those goals.

Studies show that a lack of sleep has endless negative effects on our performance in the workplace including lack of focus, bad mood, more mistakes, lack of critical and creative thinking, and even strains on relationships. Have you ever felt particularly crabby after a poor night’s rest and taken it out on a coworker the next day? Sleep deprivation takes a toll on us emotionally and psychologically and this can in turn cause relationships to suffer because of the way we interact with others.

If we do not feel well-rested, it typically shows in the work we produce. Tired bodies are simply going through the motions, and after enough time of just going through the motions, there can be long term consequences. Coworkers and managers notice when we put our best food forward. Are you really producing the highest quality work when you are nodding off in meetings? When we sleep better, we behave differently. We walk with a pep in our step, we greet the day with a smile and positive attitude, and we tackle our dreams with extra focus and motivation.

Creating new sleep habits can be difficult, but well worth it in the long run. Making the effort to make the change sooner rather than later will have a better payoff in regard to your long-term goals and aspirations. If we are mentally checked out every Monday and Friday for two months, that adds up to be two weeks’ worth of productivity and progress that is missed out on. Imagine what could be done if we make a change and are fully present each and every day!

For hard-working professionals that are looking to improve their sleep and therefore make big changes to their career, I recommend trying the True Temp Mattress Layer as an easy way to make noticeable changes to your sleep atmosphere. This conforming, silky-soft, cool-to-the-touch cover is the perfect product to add an extra layer of comfort to your sleep environment. Not to mention, it is hypoallergenic for sensitive sleepers, and continuously adapts to your body temperature throughout the night.

Quality sleep is at the foundation of all that we do, and therefore should be treated as a priority rather than the first thing we give up when we get busy. Easier said than done, but I promise the payoff will be well worth it. Improve your sleep tonight, so you can create the career of your dreams tomorrow!
