Transform Your Bedroom Into A Sleep Sanctuary

Sleep products, tips and tricks to turn your sleep environment into your own luxurious spa-like sanctuary

You spend one-third of your life asleep. Shouldn’t that one-third be in a space as relaxing and luxurious as possible?

Transform your bedroom into the nightly spa retreat that you deserve. After a long day, there is nothing better than a sleep environment that welcomes you at night like a warm embrace. The first step that will cause the biggest immediate difference, is surrounding yourself with quality sleep products that are designed to offer you more support and comfort.

I have some tips and tricks up my sleeve on how to create the most relaxing atmosphere as possible, to treat yourself to the deeper sleep that you deserve:

Keep it natural

Bring the tranquility of the outdoors into the bedroom with natural and organic fibers and textiles. Look for high-quality bedding made from natural materials, such as the Stay Fresh collection from Pottery Barn which uses activated carbon from coconut shell fibers, and materials that prevent odor and bacteria from forming. Consider rugs made from natural materials, bamboo plants or screens, living plants, baskets woven from natural materials, and furniture made from real wood. Using natural materials limits your exposure to many allergens and chemicals.

Calm with color

Color can relax or energize. For a truly peaceful bedroom atmosphere, surround yourself with calming colors like greens, blues and neutral tones to help you prepare for a more restful sleep. Avoid bold, contrasting colors, which can inhibit relaxation.

Soothe with sound

Relaxing sounds, such as white noise, are many times found at spas, because they do a great job helping soothe. Place a small, tabletop fountain on your dresser for this effect. Also, wind chimes are a great way to encourage relaxation and make your bedroom feel like a spa. Place one outside your window, or find a CD with these noises.

Hide the clutter

To truly unwind in the bedroom, remove all electronics including computers and televisions. Electronic devices are distracting and stimulating to the brain, the opposite of what you need when you’re trying to relax! If you’re able, place bills and other “clutter” in bins or somewhere other than the bedroom. Fold and put away laundry so it is not distracting you and keeping you up late with stress!
